Eddie Van Halens ELEPHANT Guitar Trick – In Depth

by on September 1, 2010

Gο tο around thе 8:00 mаrk tο see thе actual ploy. I give аn іn deepness look аt thе way tο dο thіѕ ploy. I studied backstage videos οf Edward tο gеt thіѕ tο signal јυѕt ѕο lіkе hіѕ version. Thеrе really іѕ nο rіght οr incorrect way аѕ long аѕ уου mаkе thе signal close. I’m using аn Ibanez S Series, Fender Supersonic, TC Electronic Tube Factor аnd TC Electronic G Force.

thank you thank you!! i been so curious how to do this for so long but never knew the quite name for it or a instructional video…your awesome man..your right about the volume pedal its simpler but it just sounds so much cooler raising the volume

i dont thin ive heard the elephant signal from eddie before i hear the epic jungle theme on the end of balcheteritum.

JoeyBackus September 2, 2010 at 1:22 am

@JoeyBackus
15th fret*

JoeyBackus September 2, 2010 at 1:46 am

I know an easier way.
2d string 14th fret
3th string 5th fret –>> bend op

Just with your volume on, no whammy bar or something like that. But with disortion and Comp Chorus.. (On my Vox AD Vt 100)
I will place this on youtube soon..

@99voltsdotcom I only worked it out by seeing EVH do it in a backstage 86 vid. Before that I tried the same thing on the low E & A strings using various harmonics and it was a mother elephant!! The audio I heard before that Ed also did “mice”. So many fx a guitarist has just using the instrument without fx. Screw using a volume pedal!!! Thanks for explaining it all the way through.

99voltsdotcom September 2, 2010 at 10:41 am

have you seen that vid anywhere? I want to try out that out.

robertgroove66 September 2, 2010 at 10:57 am

You can see Eddie doing it backstage (as well as UFOs and cattle sounds) in an ancient MTV special when Hagar tied the band. He used different harmonics, but yours sounds as excellent.
